Kit Carson had a long and illustrious career ranging throughout the Southwest, he was a trapper, guide, military scout, Indian agent, soldier, rancher and became an authentic legend. He bought this single story adobe home in Taos for his new wife, Maria Josefa Jaramillo in 1843. Most of his eight children were born and raised here. Carson had an active military career, reaching the rank of brigadier-general. In the 1840s he fought against the Mexicans in California, and later played a part in the Civil War and Indian campaigns against the Navajo and Plains tribes.
